The turn out at our annual Latin Music Night was small, but we still had a successful event. As always a big thank you to the performers, Jorge Vargas and the Rebeldes Musicales, Mariachi Mundo and Marco Claveria.

Also, thanks to those who came out, donated items to and bought items at the silent auction and a big thanks to volunteers.

Come out for good music, bid on local and Peruvian items at the silent auction and help us support the NGOs working with children and families living in poverty in Arequipa.

Funds raised go to support the agencies where Norquest social work students did their practicum: IRID (Instituto de Rehabilitación Integral para Discapacitados) and Cuna Jardin Corazon de Jesus. I visit each agency every year while I’m in Arequipa and am able to see first hand how our donations help make a diffeence to both of them.

We’re holding our annual fundraiser dinner July 13th at Parkdale Cromdale Community League Hall,11335 85 Street NW, Edmonton. Doors open at 5:30.

In addition to the Peruvian buffet, we will have a silent auction of local and Peruvian items and entertainment by Marco Claveria

Tickets $50, ages six to ten $15 and under six years Free.

Performers are:

Jorge Vargas Jorge is an accomplished guitarist-singer-song writer who has participated in many music projects in Chile and Edmonton with numerous bands and also as a soloist, performing in different festivals including North Country Fair and Edmonton Folk Festival.

Los Rebeldes Musicales is a music project that started with talented students from Jasper Place High School some years ago. They have performed in many events in the local Latin community, including Edmonton Latin festivals. They perform an eclectic repertoire that highlights their talent as accomplished musicians. Be delighted to listen to music by Enanitos Verdes, Los Lobos, Carlos Santa and others!

Sebastian Barrera is a guitarist and singer who lives in Edmonton Alberta. His music has a lot Latin influence with a touch of Bossa Nova and flamenco. Sebastian sings in Portuguese, Spanish and English.

Oscar-Jose Garcia and Judith Garcia have been performing and teaching flamenco for the past 40 years in and around Edmonton and area. They have been putting on full-scale flamenco production at the Tim’s Center for the arts, the Kaasa theater, Horowitz theater, Arden Theatre. They take regular workshops in Spain in the summer to bring back new information for their students.

We are holding our fifth annual Latin Music Night Oct. 30th at the Yardbird Suite Jazz Club. Tickets are $25 single, save $10 and buy a combined ticket for the Oct. 8th Peruvian dinner ($35) for only $50.

Both events include a silent auction, Peruvian folk dancers will perform at the dinner and snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are included at the Music Night.Limited time offer till Oct. 8th.
